IT’S been a long road back from my injury in April, so it was great to make a winning return at Stratford on Monday.
It’ll obviously take a while before I am back firing on all cylinders – I joked after that win that I’d come on for the run after five months on the sidelines after suffering back and neck injuries after a fall at Plumpton on Easter Monday – but I feel fit, strong, and well, and there is an awful lot to look forward to with our horses this season.
I’d like to think we have a very strong squad this season, from the established Grade 1 stars to the youngsters starting out.
But time will tell.
FRIDAY’S RIDES
3.12pm Chepstow
Will Carver
He was pulled up when he last ran at Cartmel in August, but hopefully he will do a lot better here on ground he will enjoy and off a mark we know he can be competitive off, as he showed when a good second at Ayr in April. And hopefully the wind op he has had since we last saw him will work to his advantage as he starts off in these veterans’ races. But it looks a decent handicap.
5.30pm Chepstow
Just Her Type
She is another one to have had a wind op since we last saw her, and that was a good, close second at Market Rasen in April. A mark of 103 looks okay on her handicap debut, as the winner that day may well have won under a penalty next time out but for falling at the last. Once again, though, it looks a competitive enough handicap.
