Newcastle – 14:10 (Constitution Hill)
Before he was set to appear at Ascot last weekend, I said here that Constitution Hill running was what everyone in racing had been waiting for since his win in the Supreme. That didn’t quite work out as planned, but we are here now, and, health-permitting, you will definitely see him this Saturday! I’ll let others talk about events last Saturday but it appears the ground will be perfect for him – good to soft – and we are really looking forward to getting him out. I suppose the only problem with coming to Newcastle is that he is set to lock horns with last season’s dead-heaters in the race, Epatante and Not So Sleepy, and they probably represent much stiffer opposition than he would have faced at Ascot. Eptatante, in particular, is top-class on her day, and of course we have to give her 7lb. But pretty much everything I said about my horse last week holds true. We obviously knew from a pretty early stage last season that we potentially had something special on our hands, but the manner of his 22-length Cheltenham victory from Jonbon was something else. He was breathtakingly good there, and everyone in the yard knows how good the runner-up is. This is another big test for him, outside of novice company against Grade 1 winners, but we think he is a hugely exciting horse.
