Jonbon

2.20pm Aintree

Impose Toi

He ran a great race when second in the Coral Cup, just getting touched off by one of Willie’s with Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival form. He went up 4lb for that but I’d still like to think he can be competitive off his revised mark.

Jonbon

We all know what happened at Cheltenham, but let’s hope an error-free round will see him gain compensation of sorts here. His main form rival El Fabiolo can also miss the odd one, and mistakes are just part and parcel of the jumping game. Despite there being only four runners, you can make a good case for them all, but Jonbon was in great form prior to Cheltenham and he is three from three around here, including in this race last season.

Excello

We got in here by the skin of our teeth, and I can see this test suiting him. He ran well at Sandown last time and he is relatively unexposed over fences after just the seven chase starts. The step down in trip could also be a big plus, too. And hopefully the first-time cheekpieces will be a help as well.

Califet En Vol

Second to The New Lion at Newbury earlier in the season, I thought he was very good when winning the Sidney Banks at Huntingdon last time and I am really looking forward to see what he can do over 3m. On run-style and pedigree, he could relish it.
