He looked good in wide-margin bumper and novice hurdle wins last season and, although he was beaten at a short price on his return at Newbury, he was carrying a 7lb penalty and actually put up an improved performance there. Hopefully, more ease in the ground here and a mark of 130 gives us a chance in a competitive-looking handicap.

I know he was pretty soundly beaten on his return at Carlisle when fourth to Fiddlerontheroof but that was a hot race – we all saw what Ahoy Senor, who may have been beaten when unseating 2 out, did next time – and I think it is a reasonable expectation that he will come on a fair bit for the run. He has a very lightly-raced profile and a mark of 145 looks fair on his two chase starts last season, which included a Grade 2 win at Haydock. More rain would probably increase his chance, though good to soft would be fine, and I hope he has the necessary experience for a race like this against seasoned, hardened handicappers. He has plenty of talent and potential, that is for sure.

Lust For Glory
Things haven’t entirely gone to plan for her in two starts over fences this season, and the switch to hurdles seems a sensible move. It has been a while since we have seen her in this sphere, but the last time she ran in this discipline she was a good second here in January 2020 and she is now 7lb lower. She is certainly weighted to go well if she sparks back into life here, but clearly she has it to prove here.
