NEWBURY – SATURDAY
1.30pm
A Hare Breath
He was a little bit disappointing when we last saw at Cheltenham in December, but that has turned out to be a pretty good race and the handicapper has dropped him 5lb for it. He would clearly have an excellent chance on his Sandown win last season, or his subsequent eighth in the County Hurdle and Scottish Champion Hurdle, and he stays this longer trip well. And the first-time cheek pieces will hopefully help as well. He is getting on a bit at eleven now, though.
4.50pm
Supreme Soviet
We haven’t seen him since his debut at Wincanton in November. He would clearly need to improve a good deal on that form to be competitive here, but he is a half-brother to a couple of smart winners and hopefully the potential is there. Ben’s horses are in decent form, too.
We are now NRNB on all races at the Cheltenham Festival!

HUNTINGDON – SUNDAY
2.30pm
Trull La La
She is a well-related mare, out of the stable’s very smart Chomba Womba, and she shaped really well on her debut at Ludlow in December. She ought to go well here. She schooled well on Friday morning, looks great in her coat and will like the good ground.
3.00pm
Equus Secretus
He clearly didn’t run up to his best at Exeter last time but he was a fair hurdler and this winning pointer had previously shaped well on his chasing debut at Ludlow. He can be a bit too keen but he should go close if running up to his best on ground he will enjoy.

4.40pm
My Turgeon
He showed some promise in a bumper last season but he hasn’t really been sighted in his four starts over hurdles, though I quite liked him when I rode him at Ludlow back in November. He is down to a mark of just 82, and hopefully that can allow him to show a bit more here.
5.10pm
Alph
He ran well when second on his debut at Ludlow last summer but didn’t run up to expectations at Newbury in January. We feel he is a lot better than that, but he has to show it on the track now. He just needs to learn to relax and settle a lot better, and just mature mentally, so we try him in a hood.
