Although it is currently on the quick side at Wincanton, they have had a welcome amount of rain this week, with more set to come, and that will suit Slipway. He doesn’t need it deep by any means, as his best form has come on good to soft, and he rounded off last season with an impressive win in the Highland National at Perth in April. Unfortunately, he paid for that with a hefty 10lb rise in the weights. That looks a touch harsh to me but hopefully he can improve again, and this race has been the plan for a while, I gather.
