He has some solid Festival form, finishing sixth and seven in a Martin Pipe in the last two renewals, and he is 2lb lower here. That doesn’t suggest he is on a particularly attractive mark but he shaped well when second in a qualifier at Haydock last time and I’d give him a live each-way chance here.

Song For Someone
I think he is a really interesting contender stepping up to 3m for the first time, even though on pedigree he probably shouldn’t be getting much further than a mile! Of course, his stamina is an unknown and he has to improve for the step up in trip, as well as not running well in the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown last time, but his Ascot run in November could be the big pointer to his chance here. He ran an excellent race when second, trying to give Buzz 6lb that day, with subsequent Grade 2 winners Guard Your Dreams and Goshen in behind, and he has an outside chance if repeating that form and lasting home. And he has won an International under a penalty around here. You look at this race and sense it could be ripe for a shock, though I would greatly respect Champ’s chance.

Pistol Whipped
He clearly didn’t run his race when we last saw him at Ascot back in November but we are obviously very happy with him now, and he has shown he can go well off a break. You’d have to say that his mark of 152 makes him vulnerable but he is very talented on his day, this is his trip and he appreciates decent ground. He has never raced at Cheltenham, but here is hoping it is first time lucky.

This looks a hugely competitive renewal and my mare has a lot to find form-wise but she has been consistently well in defeat, so let us see what happens.
