6.05pm Saratoga, Wednesday
Pistol Whipped
He hasn’t run over this 2m trip since his debut for us back in 2018, so there is always the possibility that he may find things happening a touch too quickly here, especially on the expected firm ground. But what this horse does have is a good cruising speed and he has often shaped as if a return to 2m is worth trying, the most recent example of that was at Kempton back in March.
He loves decent ground and he has stayed on in the States since finishing second over 3m at Percy Warner Park for me in May, a race in which he probably didn’t quite fully last home. This is a good race though, and he has to give weight away all round, and he meets some familiar faces from back home in the shape of Chief Justice, Redicean and Historic Heart, who are now all trained domestically. Hopefully, he can travel into the race strongly – he has gone from the front in recent starts, but I will see how it pans out early on here – and make his class tell to land this valuable pot.
