Excello
Just the five runners in here, but it is a competitive race. He is a maiden over hurdles so he gets weight all round and he has a good chance on his second here last time and his earlier run at Ascot. The trip is an unknown as he didn’t perform when tried over 3m1f at Cheltenham over fences last season, but hopefully he should get it okay.

Bhaloo
He was due to run at Kempton last week, and what I said about him there holds true. He clearly wasn’t himself over hurdles at Cheltenham last time and ideally he would maybe like better ground than he is likely to face here, though hopefully it’ll be fine. He was good for me at Ascot previously, and he has the scope for improvement in the chasing sphere. The 3m trip remains an unknown for him.

Iberico Lord
Another small field for a great 100k pot, but at least that suits us! Chasing doesn’t look to be Iberico Lord’s game, not for the moment anyway, and he has a fair chance here on his Betfair Hurdle win, though he clearly has a big task on his hands if Langer Dan is at his best. I can see this 2m4f trip really suiting him.

Secret Squirrel
Apparently, I have a decent record for the trainer, so let’s hope that run continues. This is clearly a very competitive contest, but he was in the process of running a big race when falling at Ascot last time, and he had earlier finished a solid third at the same track. He has a fair each-way chance, and hopefully a winning one, too.
