KELSO

1:42

Pentland Hills (Nico de Boinville)

He’s been a non-runner due to the ground the last twice, but the going is reportedly much better up there, although the forecast doesn’t look great. The handicapper put him up another 2lbs for finishing second at Doncaster, which is never ideal, but he’s in good form and this trip, on a track like this, should suit.

Russian Ruler (Brian Hughes)

He’s not in love with jumping fences so, we’re switching back to hurdles and he schooled nicely over them earlier in the week. This is a competitive race, but he has plenty of ability and we’re sticking to this trip for the time being.

Jango Baie (Nico de Boinville)

He probably should’ve won the Sidney Banks last time, but got in a bit of a muddle, and the winner had already kicked – in receipt of 5lbs. This intermediate distance will be perfect, and his work has been very good. He has entries at Cheltenham, but we’ll get this out of the way first before considering anything else – it’s highly likely he’ll go straight to Aintree, where he won the G1 Formby Hurdle.

2:50

Under Control (Nico de Boinville)

She was unlucky not to win at Doncaster last time when second to a good mare of Mr Mullins and, as you know, we have always held her in very high regard. Her work is always smart and, depending on the outcome here, I wouldn’t rule out Cheltenham because she handles her racing very well and there’s a rather attractive bonus on offer!

4:35

Governor Of India (Nico de Boinville)

He is a very well bred son of Dubawi, out of a Musidora winner, who stayed a mile and a quarter on the flat, which bodes very well for his jumping career, and his schooling has gone very well. This looks a good starting point, and we like him a lot.

NEWBURY

2:25

Brave Jen (James Bowen)

She posted a great effort in a Listed race over course and distance earlier in the season and a reproduction of that would see her go very close. This is her first start in a Handicap and carrying 12 stone in testing ground won’t make things easy, but this looks a good opportunity.

3:00

Spring Note (James Bowen)

She benefitted from a great ride by James when winning around here last time, for which she got a massive hike in the weights, but she has a good record at Newbury and has a rock-solid chance.
