ASCOT
Bective Abbey (Nico de Boinville)
He’s been off since last April but won his Maiden at Warwick very comfortably and is a person we like a lot. He should be going novice chasing but has to have another run over hurdles before we can do that, but he is already a Point to Point winner. The step up in trip won’t hold any problems whatsoever and hopefully he can be competitive.
Jingko Blue (Nico de Boinville)
He has a penalty to defy for winning a G2 at Windsor last time, so is worse off at the weights with Lowry’s Bar, but apart from being pulled up at the Cheltenham Festival last year when all our horses were wrong, he has done nothing wrong all his life and is a progressive horse.
I shall also be keeping a close eye on Peaky Boy; he’s a horse we know quite well!
La Pinsonniere (Nico de Boinville)
She got the job done in her Maiden at Huntingdon and that will have done her confidence plenty of good. The rise in trip shouldn’t pose a problem and it will be interesting to see how she fares on her first run in a Handicap.
Wiseguy (Nico de Boinville)
He caused a minor shock at Newbury in November when winning in style and comes into this a fresh horse. The Handicapper has had his say but three miles around here, on decent ground, will be right up his street.
Kingston Pride (Nico de Boinville)
I can only put it down to the soft ground and the fact he didn’t jump fantastically at Sandown which saw Nico pull him up, so he comes into this with a small question mark hanging over him but we all know he is much better than that and he will be more at home on this better going. He schooled very well earlier in the week.
HAYDOCK
Doddiethegreat (Brian Hughes)
We’re trying a couple of different things in the hope it reignites the spark a little because, as we all know, he is a very talented person so I’m rather hoping the cheek pieces and step up to three miles will do the trick. He’s in super shape at home and we have a good jockey on board!
WINCANTON
Western Harmony (Ben Sutton)
He wasn’t beaten all that far last time, but he’s ready for a step up in trip and the cheek pieces will hopefully sharpen him up a bit. This is his first foray into Handicap Company and he has a decent chance.
