AINTREE
1:20: The Handicap Hurdle
Bold Endeavour (Nico De Boinville)
He is the most consistent person, and you could almost set your watch by him, but as a consequence, he’s still plenty high enough in the weights. I was delighted with his run in the Pertemps Final and a reproduction of that effort would see him in with a solid chance in this. The ground will be fine.
Chantry House (James Bowen)
He hasn’t won for a while but is gradually come down the weights and I still believe there is another decent race in him. He’s not particularly flashy in his work but is in good shape at home and won’t mind the going.
Russian Ruler (Brendan Powell)
He’s going up in trip, which I think will be interesting, and he worked well along the Faringdon Road on Tuesday. The drier the ground the better and hopefully he can run a nice at decent odds, but this is a tough ask.

3:05: The Liverpool Hurdle
Champ (Jonjo O’Neill)
The intention was always to skip Cheltenham and come straight here because he tends to run his best races when fresh and with dear old Paisley Park retired, it does give us a better chance and the cheekpieces will help as well. He has been the most wonderful servant to us all and I can’t see any reason why he won’t put up a bold show.

4:00 Grand National
Unfortunately, no runner for us in the Grand National but it is always a great spectacle, and I shall enjoy it like everyone else. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing I Am Maximus because he is a former Seven Barrows resident before heading across the water to Mr Mullins and is made for a race like this. He was very good in the Irish Grand National last year and was impressive in the Bobbyjo Chase in February, a race which is a good stepping stone to Aintree. He’ll handle the ground and if he manages to win, I shall be claiming it myself – or at least sharing the training accolades with Willie Mullins!
