He was obviously a big improver when we stepped him up in distance last season, and hopefully that progression will continue as he contests this marathon trip. You never know if they will last home until you try, but he has a really good attitude and the way he saw his races out over 2m at Chepstow and Musselburgh last year gives you plenty of encouragement. He has gone up 7lb for his most recent win, but we have been happy with him at home and obviously our stable is going a lot, lot better now. He wouldn’t want much rain at all but he is fit and well, and this has been the plan for a while.

She had the option of this race or the Molecomb earlier on in the card, and Archie has decided to take in this easier contest. Well, hopefully it is easier anyway; it has certainly cut up a fair bit. She showed a lot of speed in winning her first two starts, and hasn’t run a bad race in defeat since, running really well at big prices in the Windsor Castle and the sales race at Newbury last time. She needs to step up a bit on that level of form to be winning this – though not too much – but this track should really suit her, and the expected better ground will, too.

He has just snuck it at the bottom weights, which is great news as he did it nicely for me when making all at Epsom last time. A 4lb rise is pretty much what you would have expected and he has proved very consistent since his gelding operation. He looks to have run okay in a nursery at this meeting last season and he wants decent ground.
