THERE is great racing on this weekend and we run some nice horses at Fairyhouse on Saturday and Sunday and while I had hoped to get Sizing John back in time for the Hattons Grace on Sunday, it just comes a week too soon for him. We’ll find a race for him over the next few weeks, but all is fine with him and hopefully he’ll be back racing soon.

My thoughts on my weekend runners are below.

Fairyhouse – Saturday

11.50pm

Whydah – Paddy Kennedy

I am keen to get him started over fences and he will find his own level over them. He has schooled well and he likes soft ground and hopefully he’ll put in a good round of jumping and run a good race.

1.35pm

January Jets (Paddy Kennedy) & The Gabby Cabby (Sean O’Keeffe)

January Jets is a lovely horse which has won his point to point. We like him and he has plenty done, but this looks a very competitive maiden hurdle. Last season’s Cheltenham Bumper form is on view here with Sempo (who finished 6th) and that race has worked out exceptionally well since. Our horse has schooled well and is ready to start off. He is a very nice five year old and whatever he does here, he will improve for it and hopefully he’ll run a nice race.

The Gabby Cabby has never run over hurdles before, but he ran two solid races in bumpers and like the other horse, I am keen to him started over hurdles. He is a nice horse and like January Jets, he will improve a lot for this.

3.15pm

Port Stanley (Finny Maguire)

He is a very nice horse and was placed behind Envoi Allen and Abacadabras in his two bumpers last season and I was keen to let him have another go at a bumper, before we send him over hurdles. We like this horse and his form looks very good. He has been working very well and I am hoping for the best from him.

Fairyhouse – Sunday

3.10pm

Polished Steel (Paddy Kennedy)

We were disappointed with his last run but that was a rare poor effort from him and I think its best just to draw a line through that. We gave him a short break after Down Royal and he has a nice light weight on his back. He runs well fresh and the ground should be fine for him and if he gets a bit of luck in running, I’d like to think he could run a good race.

3.40pm

Crosshill (Finny Maguire)

He makes his debut here in what is traditionally a very good bumper. He has plenty done and we think a good bit of him. This is probably the best four year old bumper run for some time, and as I said, we like our horse and I expect him to run a nice race.
