Newmarket
2.05pm
Blue Gardenia
She didn’t run at all badly for me in the Oaks, sticking on well after getting behind in the early stages, but she doesn’t appear to have run too well at Newmarket last time. Hopefully, the cheek pieces will help her and she can return to that Epsom form, or her earlier Musidora fifth, as that would give her leading claims in a Listed race that lacks a stand-out performer.
2.40pm
Bredenbury
We liked her after her Brighton win, so she took her chance in the Duchess Of Cambridge. She was clearly up against it there, taking on Royal Ascot winners, so I was happy enough with her run that day. Stepping back to nursery company off a mark of 85, I would be pretty positive about her chance.
3.15pm
Mira Star
She went for a fair amount at the sales last season and 7f looks the right starting point for this Sea The Stars filly on pedigree, though there is a fair mix of speed and stamina on the dam side. Other than that, I don’t know a great deal about her, though Ed introduced a smart filly to win here on her debut last month, so he can get one ready.
3.50pm
Fastman
He has been running solidly but obviously David thought gelding him would bring about improvement, so that has been done. Conditions look ideal for him and he ran well off this mark at York last time.
4.25pm
Oasis Fantasy
He didn’t run up to his best at York last time but maybe racing alone on the far rail didn’t suit him. He had earlier been running well, and his narrow second to Sextant at Windsor off this mark was given a boost when the winner followed up at Ascot last week. He has a decent chance in a race that has cut up.
5.00pm
Star of War
She doesn’t look to have got the run of the race at all at Newbury last time. That was her first start at this 1m2f trip and she seemed to get it well, so there could be a fair bit of improvement in her.
