Newmarket

3.40pm

Jazeel

It was good news that a lot of the forecast rain failed to materialise earlier in the week, as any significant ease in the ground would have been a negative for him. So let’s hope it stays decent on the weather front. Things didn’t go his way when he was tried over 1m4f at York last time – as with his previous run at the track, it generally paid to be handy that day – but we know track and trip suits him from his Silver Cambridgeshire win last season, and you have to expect a strong pace in this bigger field, which clearly will suit him. He went up 3lb for his earlier Goodwood second, but he certainly has his chance in what is obviously a very open race.

4.15pm

Folk Dance

She has a lovely pedigree, being by Golden Horn out of an EP Taylor winner in Folk Opera, and is related to a couple of good winners. We like to bring our juveniles on slowly but apparently she has done everything asked of her at home – I haven’t sat on her – and hopefully she will give us something to build on for the future.

4.50pm

Onassis

This is the first time I have ridden her but she put up her best performance yet when narrowly beaten at Kempton last time, where she was checked twice in her run and was unlucky not to win. The handicapper agreed and put up her 4lb, but hopefully she is still on a competitive mark.

Chelmsford

6.50pm

Harry’s Bar

He has a lot to find with three of his five rivals but he is a well-related and progressive course winner who ran well when third to Royal Birth here last time. He clearly has a lot to do at the weights in this conditions race, but it is certainly worth a crack at this valuable pot, and the step back up to 6f could suit him at this track.

7.20pm

Kitaabaat

He has done well since joining us, when stepped up in trip with a hood applied, and he has only gone up 1lb for beating The Trader in a match over 1m4f at Doncaster time. He goes up to 1m6f in a deeper race here, and the pedigree doesn’t scream stayer, so he has that question to answer. We hope there is more to come from him from a mark of 88, though.
