GOODWOOD – SATURDAY
1:50 G3 Prestige Stakes
Clitheroe
This is always won by a decent filly and I was lucky enough to win it in 2001 on Gossamer who went on to claim the Fillies’ Mile and Irish 1000 Guineas so it’s a race to pay close attention to.
My mount, Clitheroe, was narrowly beaten on her first run (under Rossa Ryan) in what looked a good Newbury Novice and quite often David’s horses can improve for their debuts. The fact he’s running her in a race like this off the back of that effort would suggest he thinks a fair deal of her and when I spoke to him this morning, the vibes were pretty positive. She’s stepping up a furlong but that shouldn’t be a problem on a speed track like this and I’m obviously delighted to get the leg up on a filly who clearly has lots of potential.
