Larchmont Lad

He was obviously a very smart performer for Richard Hannon, and then for David O’Meara last season, winning a Group 2 at The Curragh in June. He doesn’t carry a penalty for that win and enjoys fast ground, so he should go well here if straight enough on his return for his new stable. It’s a very hot Listed race though – it looks more like a Group 2 – so he will certainly need to be on his A-game.

Baasha

He won at Chelmsford in January but he hasn’t really gone on from there, and was disappointing at Windsor earlier in the month. But he has at least come down the weights – he is 2lb lower than when winning at Chelmsford – and maybe the first-time visor will spark him back to life. He definitely needs to show more than of late to be winning this big-field handicap.

Colony Queen

She has gone well on both starts here, winning a novice over course and distance in February, and it looks like she may not have stayed when tried over 1m4f+ at Newcastle last time.  So back in trip and just 2lb higher than when previously just touched off at Chelmsford, and from a stable in form, she has prospects.

Sleeping Lion

He didn’t run up to his best at Newmarket when we last saw him but prior to that had been very progressive, winning twice and finishing a good third at Ascot. He has been gelded since his last run, so hopefully he can continue his summer improvement as a 4yo, given this is only his seventh start. He also wears a first-time hood, so let’s hope that helps him as well.

His third at Newcastle last October looked full of promise, especially as he would have needed the experience there. I have ridden him at home and he may need further down the line, and you probably can’t rate that Newcastle form too highly, but he looks a fair prospect and one that will hopefully be capable of a bold show here, for all that it looks a decent novice for the track.
