Jazeel
He obviously comes here in great form, but he has gone up 3lb for his Goodwood near-miss and we are going into the unknown at this longer trip, though he has tried 1m4f once before, in the Shergar Cup last season. I genuinely don’t know if he will last home over this extra furlong or so, but he does finish off his races well over 1m2f, so that gives you encouragement. He also ran well enough here in the John Smith’s last month, off this mark, considering you needed to be handy that day.

Abstemious
This is clearly a big step up in class for him, but he has earned his chance after building on his excellent debut effort when winning easily here for me last time. That form is some way detached from what will be required here against the likes of Threat, but I think he is a very decent prospect.

Gift Of Kings
He has certainly got a pedigree that catches your eye, being a Kingman half-brother to the Guineas runner-up Delegator, who also won a Duke Of York Stakes here. Kevin is no stranger to banging in 2yo winners at this course but I could be on his second-string here, given Danny is on the stable’s other runner, Western Hero.
