NEWBURY
1.15pm
Uther Pendragon
I rode him when he finished a good third at Sandown on fast ground in May and he can race off a 3lb lower mark here, just four starts later. Obviously, he hasn’t run-up to that level since and it looks like being far more testing here, but he had plenty of soft ground form in France and he could run a lot better than of late.
2.25pm
Durston
He obviously has a lot to find with these on official ratings, but he is an improver and at least he has only four rivals to face in this Group 3. And soft ground should be fine for him, too. He comes here after a career-best at Goodwood last time, so let’s see what he can do, up in grade. But he is clearly up against it with the likes of the much higher-rated Morando.
3.00pm
Sanaadh
He wasn’t beaten far in the Bunbury Cup last time, and doesn’t appear to be on a bad mark. It remains to seen how he will cope with the ground if it does turn very testing, but he is weighted to give a good account of himself if he handles the conditions.
