Sandown

1.50pm

Arecibo

He has clearly got a new and improved lease of life since joining Robert [Cowell] this season and obviously hit a career-best when second in the King’s Stand last time. To be honest, it was an ideal set-up for him, closing off such a fast pace, but a strict reading of that form makes him the one to beat here and hopefully the race pans out similarly here. He handles easier ground well too, if we get more rain.

2.25pm

Orbaan

I rode him when he was fourth at Ascot last season and a mile on good ground, which he looks like getting here, are his conditions. The handicapper hasn’t cut him that much slack for a string of defeats but he shaped pretty well at Newcastle last time, his first run since a wind op and his first start since a fifth in the Lincoln in March, and I can see him going well. And, as for his handicap mark, I suppose he is just 1lb higher than winning a good 1m York handicap last July, so he is weighted to go well, though he will need luck from stall one.

Unibet's 15 To Go Free Bet Offer will run on this race.

5.15pm

Gleneaglet

She probably posted her best effort yet when runner-up on her handicap debut at Nottingham last time. I think that is pretty strong handicap form for the grade – the winner is progressing fast and those behind her have run well in defeat since – so I think this Gleneagles filly is set to run well here off the same mark. She showed a good attitude to battle on once headed at Nottingham, and she will get better with experience.
