Betting expert Graham Ruthven returns with his best picks for the weekend action as the domestic calendar comes to a temporary close.

Player to score – Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Schalke v Bayern Munich) – 17/20

Bayern Munich have found an unlikely replacement for Robert Lewandowski with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting now the Bavarians’ first-choice centre forward. The former Stoke City striker has scored nine goals in his last eight games and is a good bet to continue his scoring form against Schalke this weekend.

Only Bochum (36) have conceded more goals than Schalke (30) in the Bundesliga this season with Thomas Reis’ team at the foot of the table. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have found the back of the net 47 times in just 14 games. They will get chances against Schalke and Choupo-Moting will be in a position to take at least one.

Player to be carded – Ruben Neves (Wolves v Arsenal)

Julen Lopetegui won’t take over at Wolves until next week, but the West Midlands team could still use a positive result against Arsenal this weekend. The Gunners will look to control the centre of the pitch and this will place a strain on the Wolves midfield. Ruben Neves is a key part of the Wolves central unit.

No Wolves player has received more yellow cards this season than Neves (six) and the Portuguese international will need to be at his combative best on Saturday. Neves averages 2.9 tackles per 90 minutes and he is a good bet to pick up another booking against Arsenal this weekend.

Match to be a draw – Bournemouth v Everton (23/10)

After a positive spell in late August and into September, Everton are struggling for consistent form again, winning just one of their last six Premier League fixtures. The Toffees have failed to win 22 of their last 24 away matches with Frank Lampard’s side also drawing a blank in their last three league matches on the road.

Bournemouth are also struggling for form at the moment having lost their last four Premier League matches. The south coast side have drawn two of their seven home fixtures in front of their own fans this season and there’s good reason to believe they will take something from this match, but maybe not all three points.

Both teams to score – Fulham v Manchester United (11/20)

Fulham have arguably been the surprise package of the 2022/23 Premier League season so far with Marco Silva’s team currently in the top half of the table. The Cottagers have scored in all but two of their 14 league fixtures, even scoring against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend. They can be a dangerous team.

Manchester United have scored in every away Premier League match since the 4-0 defeat to Brentford on only the second weekend of the season. Erik Ten Hag’s team are a long way from being the finished article, but they carry a threat in the final third with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes in good form.

All the signs are positive ahead of Manchester City’s home match against Brentford on Saturday. The defending Premier League champions have won their last 11 home matches in the division. On top of this, they have also scored two or more goals in each of their last 15 Premier League games in front of their own fans.

City have scored in both halves of of their last five home matches and have won the first half four times over the same stretch of games. Erling Haaland came off the bench to score a late winner against Fulham last weekend and is almost certain to start this weekend with the World Cup break just around the corner.
