HENRIK LARSSON is a man who knows more about the joys and heartbreak of European football than most. The Swedish international lifted the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006 and suffered heartbreak in the UEFA Cup final with Celtic in 2003, despite bagging a brace for the Bhoys.

For episode one of our Very Modern Football Show, we headed over to Sweden to Helsingborg, via Malmo. The latter, the home of the only Swedish team to reach the European Cup final and the home of our star of the show.

We sat down with Larsson to discuss his impressive pedigree in continental competition, finding out what it was like to come off the bench in a Champions League final, and how it felt to peform so well in a UEFA Cup final but have to deal with the fact that trophy was ultimately not going your way.

We also tested the goalscorer’s knowledge of an illustrious playing career that took him to Hogaborg and back, via the likes of Feyenoord, Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United. Just to keep Larsson on his toes, we also quizzed him on the players he played alongside in European competition.

After testing the Swede’s mind, we got him on the pitch to see if the body still had it. The challenge? Five penalties with five different techniques. You do not want to miss this.
