NEWBURY
3:30 Weatherbys Super Sprint
Raakeb (Sean Levey)
He was seventh in the Coventry and wasn’t beaten all that far in the Superlative last week. While this is a step down in Grade, it is obviously massively competitive, but he might still have some improvement in him and I think the drop back in trip will be a big help, especially in a race like this where there will be plenty of pace, but, owing to his price tag, he does have plenty of weight.
Logi Bear (William Buick)
He’s got form with the favourite and was looking quite progressive before a disappointing run in the Windsor Castle last time. He’s been freshened up at home and worked very nicely on Wednesday. He is a tough colt who could easily run very well in this type of race.
Corniche Girl (Saffie Osborne)
She’s shaped with promise on all three starts, and now has a mark, but she has plenty to find with the principals and if she can finish in the first six, I’ll be delighted.
5:20
Star Style (Sean Levey)
We thought she’d run a lot better than she did last time, so she comes here with questions to answer. The step back up to seven furlongs should hopefully help, bearing in mind she won over course and distance on debut, and the Handicapper has dropped her a few pounds.
British Blue (Saffie Osborne)
She hasn’t gone on from her impressive winning debut last October and definitely needs to step up considerably on what she’s shown so far this season.
NEWMARKET
7:38
Best Rate (Tom Marquand)
He’s been very unlucky not to win already this season and draw a line through his latest run at Goodwood, where he completely missed the break and lost the race at the start. He’s up against older horses here, but a mile on a track like this will be ideal, and he has a serious chance.
DONCASTER
7:15
Only One Blue (Hollie Doyle)
She’s quite a progressive filly, who probably didn’t handle Epsom last time, but we’re sticking to a mile and a half for the time being, and this more conventional track will play to her strengths. She’s a sweet filly whose winning opportunity won’t be far away.
HAYDOCK
6:55
Carderock (Alec Voikhansky)
He hasn’t improved for being gelded, although he did run slightly better at Goodwood last time over this trip. He’s effectively 5 lbs lower, taking into account Alec’s claim, but I couldn’t be confident he’ll be breaking his Maiden tag here – I’m happy to be proved wrong, however!
Seventy (Sam Hitchcott)
This will be his first start in a handicap, and he’s going up in distance too; both of which I hope will see him in a much better light.
8:30
Vronti (Sam Hitchcott)
She had been ready to run for a while, but the ground was too fast, so we eventually got her out at Ffos Las, where she ran a very nice race, staying on to finish fourth. That will have brought her on a lot, and I’m optimistic this half-sister to Heredia will go very close.
