Spain boast a collection of some of the best attacking players in the world. Esther Gonzalez has scored more goals (four) than anyone else at Women’s Euro 2025 with Aitana Bonmati, Claudia Pina and Mariona Caldentey also capable of producing a moment of magic out of nothing – see Bonmati’s winner against Germany.
However, Alexia Putellas could be Spain’s biggest difference-maker in Sunday’s final against England. The Lionesses have struggled to defence space in front of their back four over the duration of this tournament and this is where the Barcelona superstar is most dangerous.

Spain have been formidable in their run to the final of the Women’s Euro 2025, scoring 17 goals and conceding just three in five matches. Germany are the only opponent to have kept a clean sheet against the world champions in 90 minutes and they were eventually broken down in extra time.
However, Spain’s high defensive line will give England something to target in quick transition. This is where the threat of Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly and Lauren Hemp comes to the fore. Belgium scored twice against Spain in the group stage, giving England some encouragement that they can harm the favourites.

England will have to be cynical in their approach against the ball on Sunday. Spain are the best possession team in women’s international football and will dominate the majority of possession in the Women’s Euro 2025 final. Sarina Wiegman will need to organise her team well to stop Spain from passing them to death.
It would also be beneficial for England to break up possession sequences through fouling and this is where some of their players could draw the attention of the referee. The Lionesses have been shown five yellow cards at the tournament and could add to that tally against Spain on Sunday.

Gonzalez is one of the best penalty box poachers in the world and she has shown that for Spain at Women’s Euro 2025, scoring four goals in five games. No player has averaged more shots on goal per game (3.4) than the 32-year-old who will start at the head of the Spanish attack against England.
The Lionesses have been defensively vulnerable when protecting their own box at Women’s Euro 2025. Italy exposed this to score the opener in the semi-final and Gonzalez will almost certainly have similar opportunities to find the back of the net. Hannah Hampton will have to be in top form.

Nonetheless, Spain look to be a level above the defending European champions. England will have attacking threat on the break and from crosses into the box, but Spain’s control of possession and territorial advantage will prove too much. They will add the Euros title to their World Cup crown.
