England's cubs to roar as Iceland freeze

Player to score first – Brennan Johnson (Wales v Liechtenstein)

Wales can build on a positive start to World Cup qualifying by claiming three points at home to Liechtenstein on Friday night. Liechtenstein are an extremely limited side having lost both of their opening qualifiers, conceding five goals in the process. Craig Bellamy’s team will have chances to find the net.

Brennan Johnson could lead the line as a centre forward for the home team. This is a role the Tottenham Hotspur winger performed well in the home win over Kazakhstan in March, and so there’s good reason to believe he will end up on the score sheet against Liechtenstein.

Over 3.5 total goals – Andorra v England

Thomas Tuchel could take the opportunity to give some second-string players an opportunity for England away to Andorra on Saturday. Even taking this into account, the Three Lions will surely have far too much quality for their hosts, hinting at this World Cup qualifier being something of a blowout.

The likes of Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Eberechi Eze could all be in line for a start. Harry Kane is expected to lead the line, with Bukayo Saka another who will likely feature from the start, to give England an attacking funnel down the right wing. This is a chance for England to flex their muscle.

Match to be a draw – Scotland v Iceland

Scotland will have to wait until September to start their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, meaning Steve Clarke’s team will have to tread water with a home friendly against Iceland on Friday. With it being a friendly, Clarke could rotate his team. Lewis Ferguson, Lennon Miller, and Max Johnston could be in line for a start.

Having won just one of their last nine friendly matches, though, there’s little reason for Scotland to be confident of a positive result. They were also dismantled 3-0 by Greece in their last match at Hampden Park, giving hope to a limited side that they can leave Glasgow with something for their efforts.

Both teams to score – Norway v Italy

Norway have made a flying start to their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, winning their first two games and racking up nine goals in the process. Of course, Erling Haaland will be a threat against Italy on Friday, but this is a Norway side that also features the likes of Martin Odegaard and Alexander Sorloth.

The Azzurri, meanwhile, are without a win in their last three games. Luciano Spalletti is under pressure as Italy manager after a run of just two wins from six matches. This could be a tricky match for the Euro 2020 winners, while Norway will surely cause damage in the attacking third.

Graham’s treble

Our red-hot tipster is back with his best bets from across this weekend’s international action, including the final three from above.

Think theys have legs? Could they race into the winners’ enclosure on Derby weekend? Why not throw all four runners into an acca? £10 potentially returns just under £100 if they come in!

Chomping at the bit?

PORTUGAL vs SPAIN BET BUILDER

Portugal and Spain will face each other in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday, with the latter looking to retain the title they won two years ago. This match could be an attacking showcase, such is the level of final-third talent that will be on the pitch. The semi-finals were a spectacle.

Lamine Yamal will be a threat having found the back of the net in the thrilling 5-4 win over France. It’s also a good bet that both teams will score having scored 12 goals between them in the semi-finals during the week. This could be a fitting conclusion to this season’s Nations League campaign.
