THE summer transfer window is open, earlier than usual due to the Club World Cup, and business is already being conducted across the Premier League.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen with Florian Wirtz also on his way while Liam Delap is expected to complete a transfer to Chelsea in the coming days. It’s shaping up to be a busy summer and here are five big transfer stories to keep an eye on.

Bryan Mbeumo

Fresh from the best season of his career to date, interest is high in Bryan Mbeumo. Manchester United and Newcastle United have both been linked with the Brentford attacker who scored 20 goals in just 38 Premier League matches last term. Many expect Mbeumo to be on the move in the summer transfer window.

Mbeumo would be a good addition for either Manchester United or Newcastle. The former could be a particularly interesting destination if Bruno Fernandes departs. The Cameroonian international is versatile and can play in several positions across the forward line. For a reported £40m-£50m, he could be a shrewd pick-up.

Rayan Cherki

Manchester City are set for a busy summer with Pep Guardiola intent on rebuilding his squad after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Kevin De Bruyne has departed and could be replaced by Rayan Cherki as City attempt to close a deal worth €40m for the Lyon player who scored 12 times last season.

Cherki is excellent in tight spaces and will give Manchester City more creativity to utilise in the attacking third. Tijani Reijnders could also arrive from AC Milan to bolster Guardiola’s options in attacking midfield. City are transitioning into a new era and Cherki could be an important part of their next great team.

Victor Osimhen

Several clubs are in the market for a new centre forward and Victor Osimhen is a wanted man. The Nigerian spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, scoring 26 times in the Turkish SuperLig, and has been linked with countless suitors including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United who all desire a new frontman this summer.

Osimhen would play in the Champions League should he make the move to Arsenal or Chelsea. Manchester United, meanwhile, need a new centre forward to build around. Osimhen would be a serious upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund and would provide the sort of cutting edge United are desperately lacking right now.

Alejandro Garnacho

Ruben Amorim has clashed with Alejandro Garnacho to such an extent that the Argentine winger could depart Manchester United this summer. While the 20-year-old’s talent is clear, there are questions over his commitment and work ethic. Amorim is attempting to reset the culture at Old Trafford and Garnacho may be a victim of that.

Chelsea registered their interest in Garnacho at the start of the year when they tried to land the winger in January. Napoli are also believed to be admirers of the youngster. Manchester United reportedly want €60m for Garnacho whose sale would cause controversy among the club’s supporters.

Eberechi Eze

Eberechi Eze scored the winner in last season’s FA Cup final, making history for Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old is ready for the next step in his career and has been most strongly linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the past. Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the England international.

Eze is a sharp finisher in and around the box and can beat an opponent in the dribble. He would improve most teams near the top of the Premier League and could attract genuine attention over the course of the summer transfer window. At 26, Eze is entering the peak years of his career as well.
