Obviously, we were expecting a little more from him than we saw last Sunday when he could only manage to finish fourth in a maiden hurdle at Musselburgh. But the fact that we are here six days later in a Grade 2 is a sign that we haven’t lost the faith just yet in a horse who was rated 103 on the Flat. Clearly, he will have to improve hugely for the experience to even be competitive here, but we know the raw talent is in there.

He ran well enough to a point at Cheltenham last time, but I was hoping he would see his race out a little better than he did, though a mistake 2 out knocked the stuffing out of him at a vital stage, to be fair. Down 1lb in the weights, back on a track he has won at and maybe on a bit better ground, I can see him going much closer here.
