NEWBURY

12:30

Wiseguy (Freddie Gordon)

He won this race last year and is back again off just a 2lbs higher mark. While he hasn’t had a run yet this year, that wouldn’t worry me because he goes very well fresh, and I’m quite keen on him.

Bhaloo (James Bowen)

He loves good ground, and this is probably the right trip, on the right course on the right ground, so there is plenty to like about his chance. He could do with coming down a few pounds, but everything else fits nicely for him here and I’m hopeful.

1:05

Buddy Holly (James Bowen)

He’s coming here very much from an educational point of view but he is an extremely nice horse. He had one run in a Bumper in Ireland and has finished up with us, which was always the plan, and this is a good place to start him off. Whether he’s quite ready to win first time out, I can’t guarantee, but he most definitely has a very bright future.

1:40

East India Express (Freddie Gordon)

He’s not had the best start to the season, but he’s much better than that, and the drop back to two and a half will help. His mark of 135 is still plenty high enough, but he gets on very well with Freddie and hopefully they can be competitive.

2:55

Hyland (James Bowen)

He would want the ground to stay good but has a run under his belt from Cheltenham, and he enjoyed a spin around Newbury on the gallops morning earlier in the month. He schooled very well on Thursday morning, is in fine form at home and this race has always been the plan.

NEWCASTLE

11:42

Night Ride Home (Nico de Boinville)

The saddle slipped and he was unseated last time, but he’s been in very good form at home and is an out and out two miler. He’s another one of Michael’s, so it makes sense to take him up to accompany Constitution, and this is the perfect race as I need to get a run into him. He’s a nice horse.

Constitution Hill (Nico de Boinville)

Everything that can be said has been said, so there really is nothing left to be said!

He has done more schooling than almost anything I’ve ever trained, and he’s been away to gallop, so is as fit as I can get him and there is nothing to show me that he isn’t still the horse he was. Obviously he could be vulnerable to the younger brigade, but he looks great, is great, and I am very much looking forward to what should be a fantastic race.

DONCASTER

2:07

Fierce Warrior (Brian Hughes)

He ran very well on his first start over fences when he probably just needed it so and I have enlisted the services of my northern stable jockey, Brian Hughes, once again. The step back up in trip is a big plus, and he has outstanding claims in my book.
