Mister Coffey
He has obviously shown excellent form over much longer trips than 2m4f but the forecast rain is going to make this a stamina test. He clearly took very well to the Cross Country scene last season, finishing a great second to Stumptown here on soft ground in December, but he has a consistent record in the normal discipline and he has a decent record when fresh. Of course, he is well known for finishing second, but that’ll end one day!

The forecast rain may not be ideal, but he won a Tingle Creek in heavy ground, so I wouldn’t be too worried on that front. Carrying a 6lb penalty first time up against decent opposition will be a fair test for him, and he will improve for the run, as he did after winning this race last season, but I’d like to think his class will again come to the fore here. You can set your watch by him.

This looks a very open Grade 2 but my horse arguably has as good a chance as any in here. I suppose the weather forecast may be an issue for him, as he excelled in the summer on decent ground, but, against that, he probably ran as well as he has done when second to a decent horse under a penalty in the soft at Carlisle last time.
