Day three of the Qatar Goodwood Festival features the Qatar Nassau Stakes Group 1 which sees Whirl Unibet 11/10 and See The Fire Unibet 15/8, who are very tightly matched at the head of the market. This looks a fascinating renewal, and Whirl is selected to just come out on top.
Enjoy whether at Goodwood or watching #athome on ITV Racing.
Cheers,
The Wine Tipster
1:20 Goodwood – Kincsem Handicap (1m 2f)
Daiquiri Bay ran better than he was credited for in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot Stakes when eighth to Merchant, as he had to come from a long way back that day, though he stayed on really well to suggest there is much more to come. It’s hard to forget how easily he beat Mister Winston and Criminal at Chester back in May (both have upheld the form since) over a very similar trip and there’s surely a good handicap in him.
Fort George didn’t take to Goodwood last time out finishing second beaten a neck by Arctic Grey when never running with much enthusiasm until late on when making a challenge. He had won well at Newmarket on his previous start and has all the ability to run a good race if running smoothly throughout.
2.30 Goodwood – Gordon Stakes Group 3 (1m 4f)
Merchant (nap) is rated at 103 and Too Soon off a mark of 97 is the only other runner rated lower, which means he looks like he has plenty to find here.
However, he easily won a very good handicap at York and then looked so impressive at Royal Ascot when winning the King George V Handicap beating Serious Contender, who upheld the form when Lambourn in the Irish Derby.
His trainer had entered Merchant for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes so clearly thinks he is up to Group company. Merchant is making rapid progress and has gone from a mark of 82 to 103 with a three-timer looking on the cards.
3:05 Goodwood – Qatar Nassau Stakes Group 1 (1m 2f)
Whirl was just beaten a neck by Minnie Hauk in the Oaks and her subsequent defeat of Kalpana – ran well in the King George at Ascot – in the Pretty Polly just looks a little stronger, and she has to get the vote ahead of See The Fire.
This year’s renewal of the Nassau has the look of a match, and for all that See The Fire’s chance has to be greatly respected, the three-year-old Whirl will just come out on top.
