Richard Hannon: “She’s a sweet filly with a very good pedigree and could be one to watch”
YORK – THURSDAY
4:55
First Legion (Shane Foley)
He cost half a million Guineas at the Breeze Up’s and is a colt we obviously like a lot. Charlie’s horse looked good at Ascot, but he carries a penalty, along with Karl Burke’s runner, so we receive a handy bit of weight and our lad is quite streetwise who knows his job.
We’ve got a handful runners elsewhere including Cloaks Of Gold in the 4:40 at Salisbury. She had a few issues last year so missed her two-year-old season but she’s a sweet filly with a very good pedigree and could be one to watch. She’s not devoid of ability.
YORK – FRIDAY
2:10
Harry’s Girl (Tom Marquand)
I was delighted with her first run at Newmarket where she kicked clear to score with a bit in hand in what has subsequently turned out to be a decent race and I’d like to think she’s come on a bit for it too. This is obviously another step up but she’s a smart filly and I hope she can go well in a race we won with Gilded (who went on to to win the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot) in 2006.
5:30
Mum’s Tipple (Alec Voikhansky)
He’s not quite the horse he was that saw him bolt up in a big sales race here a few years ago, but he’s always maintained a good level of form and the return to seven furlongs isn’t a problem in a race where he is incredibly well treated off a career low handicap mark of 78.
A few runners elsewhere including French Affair & Secret Santa in the 3:00 at Newbury. Both ran well on their respective debuts and have come on for it. French Affair is a very nice colt and looks in great shape while Secret Santa probably surprised me a little bit by how well he ran at Newbury, but he stayed on nicely and the step up to six will definitely suit.
Meblesh was a little disappointing at Newbury last time, but is better than that, and if he can relax, he’d have a chance in the 4:45. Minnesota makes his debut in the same race and is a horse with a bright future, but he might just need it.
Logi Bear has the third start of his career after two very promising runs at Leicester and Goodwood and I’d be quite hopeful that he’ll go very close in the 4:00 at Newmarket.
