Majborough is clearly going to be tough to beat – and he is obviously not the only one to fear in here – but I think our horse has a lot going for him, too. Yes, his chasing form has come over further and maybe he could do with a touch softer ground, but he won his Grade 1 over hurdles at Aintree over 2m on good to soft, and he has that often crucial chasing experience around here. That defeat of Springwell Bay reads very well and there was no disgrace in his narrow second to Handstands in the Scilly Isles on deep ground at Sandown last time. He comes here in great form and we will give it a good go.

3.20pm – The Mares’ Hurdle
Joyeuse
I think all those with runners in the Mares’ Hurdle would have preferred it if Lossiemouth had gone for the Champion Hurdle! Joking aside, last year’s winner is clearly the standard-setter in here and she will be exceptionally hard to beat, for all she comes here on the back of a nasty fall. But we supplemented Joyeuse for a reason, and that is she was hugely impressive at Newbury last time, albeit off a mark of just 123, and we clearly don’t know her ceiling yet. I’ve no doubts about the step back up in trip for her, and it’s just a matter of whether she is a Grade 1 mare. We will find out here.

4pm – Unibet Champion Hurdle
Constitution Hill
I know I always say this, but I can’t tell you anything new about him, I am afraid, other than he continues to delight us at home, as you may have seen from the schooling video on social media last week. Everyone wants to know if he is the same model that won the Supreme in here in 2022 and beat State Man by nine lengths in the 2023 Champion Hurdle. I guess the bottom line is we don’t know for sure, but the way he won the Christmas Hurdle and took the Unibet Hurdle on the bridle suggests to us that he is back in rude health, as does his homework. It’s a great race in store, and I just hope he does himself justice, as he is a phenomenal talent.
