Player to score – Viktor Gyokeres (Slovakia v Sweden) 17/10

Viktor Gyokeres can’t stop scoring at the moment. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net an incredible 15 goals in just 12 games for club and country this season with Friday’s UEFA Nations League fixture against Slovakia another opportunity for Gyokeres to add to his tally.

Sweden also have Alexander Isak to lead the attack, but Jon Dahl Tomasson has recently used the Newcastle United forward alongside Gyokeres as a front two. This makes Sweden one of the most potent attacking units in international football at this moment in time and Slovakia will do well to keep Gyokeres out.

Over 2.5 total goals – Hungary v Netherlands (7/10)

The Netherlands can build on a positive start to their UEFA Nations League campaign against Hungary with Ronald Koeman’s team currently showcasing their attacking threat. Indeed, Oranje have scored seven goals in their last two matches and will create opportunities in Budapest this weekend.

In their last five matches against Hungary in all competitions, the Netherlands have scored at least four goals. They have also won their last five matches against Hungary and have been winning at both half time and full time in four of those games. Friday’s match could produce goals, even if most of them are scored by the Dutch.

Match to be a draw – Austria v Norway (27/10)

Norway have enjoyed an impressive start to their UEFA Nations League campaign, taking seven points from three games against Austria, Kazakhstan and Slovenia. Erling Haaland scored a late winner to claim all three points for his team when Norway faced Austria in the first meeting in Oslo last month.

On home soil, though, Austria haven’t lost a match since a 3-2 defeat to Belgium 12 months ago. Ralf Rangnick has his team playing a brand of dynamic football that could see them control the game against Norway. However, keeping out Haaland and Alexander Sorloth altogether will prove difficult.

Both teams to score – Spain v Denmark (19/20)

While Spain drew 0-0 with Serbia in their first game after winning Euro 2024, the European champions also put four goals past Switzerland in an impressive 4-1 victory. The omens are good for Luis de la Fuente’s team that they will be able to continue their strong scoring form against Denmark this weekend.

Spain have scored two or more goals in their last five games against Denmark in all competitions. There has also been over 2.5 goals in the last three meetings between Spain and Denmark in all competitions. Denmark have also demonstrated their own attacking threat by scoring twice against Switzerland and Serbia.

England suffered a damaging home defeat to Greece on Thursday that could ultimately cost Lee Carsley his chance of landing the national team job permanently. However, The Three Lions will surely learn lessons from Thursday’s game, meaning Carsley will adopt a more orthodox attacking structure.

There could be an emphatic response from England against Finland on Sunday. Their attacking talent will surely shine through, but Finland could still pose a threat on the counter attack just as Greece did at Wembley. Indeed, England have kept a clean sheet in just two of their last eight games going back to the Euros.
