THE Group 1 Sprint Stakes at Haydock is the star attraction on an excellent card with a dry forecast too.

At Kempton on the Unibet sponsored card there is the Unibet September Stakes Group 3 and the Unibet London Mile Series Final Handicap.

They have a very competitive seven race card at Ascot on the second day of their Food & Wine Festival, where I’m looking forward to presenting.

Enjoy if you are going racing at Haydock, Kempton and Ascot or watching at home on ITV Racing.

Cheers!

1:50 Haydock – Handicap (1m 6f)

Master Builder (nap) took his chance in the Melrose at York despite the fast ground (had twice been a non-runner previously due to quick conditions when fancied in my Unibet blog at Goodwood) and it proved the right thing to do, connections rewarded with an excellent third place behind Tabletalk when having to wait for a run in what looked as ever one of the most competitive handicaps of the season so far. That run showed he’s perfectly at home on a faster surface and that he stays this trip well (did some good late work), so with the prospect of plenty more improvement to come, he should go well again.

2:25 Haydock – Old Borough Cup Handicap (1m 6f)

Knightswood had caught the eye at Goodwood where, continually denied a run, he was only beaten a length at the death by stablemate the smart Align the Stars, and off the back of that, many expected a good showing in the stayers handicap at York a fortnight ago on his first start over this trip. He shaped well again, but clearly found the two miles and half a furlong distance stretching his stamina to the limit, and this drop back to 1m6f, particularly with his inside draw to work from, looks much more suitable. He can get back to winning ways.

3:00 Haydock – Be Friendly Handicap (5f)

Rocking Ends has done well since joining Tom Clover in the spring and produced a career best when scoring at Newmarket two starts ago, nicely on top at the finish and looking much more robust than had previously been the case. He lost nothing in defeat when third to Tattershall at Goodwood, when probably not best drawn that day (drawn 11, and those around him drawn 1,3,4 and 5) and with the yard still in excellent form, he can reward each-way backers here.

3.15 Kempton – Unibet London Mile Series Final Handicap (1m)

Talis Evolvere has top weight for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon, who has a good record in this race. Talis Evolvere should have been much closer than fifth to New Image on Shergar Cup day last time out but was denied a clear run a furlong out.  He won here at Kempton over this trip back in January and he is worth an each way wager.

 3:35 Haydock – Sprint Cup Stakes Group 1 (6f)

Swingalong has been narrowly denied in both the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Stakes Group 1 at Royal Ascot and July Cup Group 1 at Newmarket this season.

This four-year-old filly was fourth in this last year when she raced on her own on the stands side for the whole of the contest, you can argue that her draw in 15 once again means she’s got a bit to do but those around her are mainly hold-up horses, and she should be able to get track position very easily.

She looks a stronger horse again this year and Swingalong is building up a strong body of work with her consistent Group 1 performances, whilst the quick going is right in her favour, and she can finally get the Group 1 victory she deserves.

Bucanero Fuerte can fly the flag for the three-year-olds, as he is the top-rated runner in the field. He has made one appearance this season back in May at Naas when taking the Goffs Lacken Stakes Group 3 beating Givemethebeatboys by a head who reopposes here. The way he kept on towards the finish was impressive, given the runner-up had already had a run and Bucanero Fuerte clearly has a great attitude to racing.

In his juvenile campaign he won the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh beating Porta Fortuna and Givemethebeatboys in fantastic style when dictating the race from halfway.

Stall 3 has not been the best draw in the last decade however, there have been enough examples this season where the draw trends have gone out the window and you can expect a big performance from Bucanero Fuerte.
