Goodwood Festival Day Two

Day 2 of the Qatar Goodwood Festival features the Qatar Sussex Stakes Group 1 with Rosallion a huge miss for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon after heading the market ahead of his rival Notable Speech, who he chased home in the 2000 Guineas on his seasonal reappearance.

Rosallion is such a powerful looking individual, and it’s a real shame that he misses out on his shot at the Susses Stakes after suffering a respiratory illness. He is developing and improving rapidly as he has shown since the 2000 Guineas, whilst the winner of this classic was disappointing at Royal Ascot when seventh behind Rosallion in the St James’s Palace Stakes and it will be fascinating to see how Notable Speech performs at Goodwood. Rosallion would have been my idea of the winner, and I personally wish him the speediest of recoveries.

Enjoy whether at Goodwood or watching #athome on ITV Racing and Racing TV.

Cheers

1.50 Goodwood – Handicap (1m 4f)

Master Builder has improved on all three starts so far and meets Subsequent, who he beat a head at Salisbury on his second start, on 6lb better terms after the runner-up has franked that form twice since, winning at Haydock and back at Salisbury. That came with some cut in the ground but the original forecast rain for Wednesday has changed with a dry warm day now expected this shouldn’t inconvenience Master Builder, who is by the ground versatile Master Craftsman. Master Builder looks sure to be suited by this stamina test at Goodwood and this promising type will be right in the mix from stall 9.

3:00 Goodwood – Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes Group 3 (5f)

Vingegaard (nap) lost nothing in defeat when beaten a neck by Cabourn in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time, doing best of those that raced up with the pace, and he has the speed to capitalise on his stands-side rails draw today from stall 16. Neither will he mind what the ground is, having won on soft ground on debut and raced on good to firm at Newbury last time out. There’s plenty to like about his chances.

4.10 Goodwood – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap (1m 2f)

Elladonna is looking for a three timer, having won at Nottingham two starts back and then at Salisbury, when beating the reopposing Roarin’ Success in smart style. Those two victories were on good ground and if the conditions become too quick that wouldn’t suit her so well. This four-year-old travels strongly in her races, is really starting to fulfil her potential and coming here in top form.

5.20 Goodwood – Handicap (7f)

Star Of Orion is making his first appearance of 2024 and if fit and ready to go looks on a good mark of 95. In 2023 from nine starts he was only once outside the first four and won at Newmarket, whilst he was second to Rhoscolyn over course and distance last August. He is a consistent seven-furlong specialist, who has plenty of ability and is ground versatile too. Star Of Orion is an intriguing contender, who has each way claims.
