SPAIN and England face each other in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final with Gareth Southgate’s team aiming to end The Three Lions’ 58-year wait for major tournament glory.
Ollie Watkins’ 90th minute winner got England over the line against the Netherlands on Wednesday while Spain saw off France in their semi-final to book their place in Sunday’s final in Berlin.
Here are five bets which represent good value in this weekend’s Euro 2024 final.
Player to score – Nico Williams (Spain v England)
Nico Williams has been one of the standout performers of Spain’s run to the Euro 2024 final with the Athletic Club winger benefiting from a more direct, counter-attacking style. The 21-year-old is quick, skilful and intelligent with his movement. If England leave any space in behind, Williams will exploit it.
This could be a problem down the right side where Bukayo Saka is expected to remain as a wing back for England. Kyle Walker has pace of his own, but could find himself out-matched by Williams who will also have support from Marc Cucurella down the Spanish left side. He will be a threat.
Both teams to score
While Spain have been the most consistently impressive team at Euro 2024, they have yet to keep a clean sheet in the knockout rounds. With Luis de la Fuente, this is a Spain side more willing to play an open match and that could benefit England’s attack in quick transition through the likes of Saka, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham.
England have struggled for attacking firepower at times during Euro 2024, but Southgate’s change to a back three has unlocked something in the final third. Saka looked like his usual self against Switzerland and the Netherlands. Foden was influential against the latter and will hope to make an impact against Spain.
Player to be carded – Rodri (Spain)
There is no midfield anchor on Rodri’s level right now. The 28-year-old is integral to de la Fuente’s Spain team and will be a controlling influence in the centre of the pitch on Sunday. England need to apply pressure on Rodri to avoid the Manchester City performer from dominating and pushing Spain to victory.
However, Rodri has picked up three yellow cards at Euro 2024 – more than any other Spanish player – and is a good bet to collect his fourth against an England team that will look to attack in quick transition through the middle of the pitch.
Own goal to be scored
There have been 10 own goals scored at Euro 2024 which is the highest number of own goals scored at any European Championship in history. Could an 11th be scored in Sunday’s final between Spain and England? In a match that could be decided by the finest of margins, an own goal could have a big impact.
With Spain and England both possessing attackers who will attack open space and drive into the box, it’s possible defenders on both teams will be forced into difficult decisions. This could result with the ball ending up in the back of the net via an intervention from a defender. One last goal at Euro 2024 for the road.
