Player to score – Kai Havertz (Germany v Scotland)
Germany open Euro 2024 on home soil against Scotland on Friday night with Julian Nagelsmann’s team firm favourites to start their campaign with a win. Die Mannschaft have turned a corner after suffering a difficult 2023, claiming recent wins over France, the Netherlands and Greece. They have the quality to go the distance this summer.
Kai Havertz is expected to be a key figure for Germany. The Arsenal forward has found the back of the net in three of Germany’s last six matches and will likely spearhead Nagelsmann’s attack on opening night against a Scotland team that has conceded 21 times in their last nine matches in all competitions.
Over 2.5 total goals – Austria v France
Many see Austria as Euro 2024 dark horses – and with good reason. Ralf Rangnick’s team lost just one of their eight qualifying fixtures and have earned a reputation for being an entertaining, dynamic side to watch. Indeed, they have scored at least once in their last 18 matches dating back to September 2022.
Of course, France are among the favourites to go the distance at Euro 2024, but they have shown themselves to be vulnerable at the back in recent outings, conceding twice to Greece, Germany and Chile. A victory might be beyond Austria, but they certainly have the quality to cause some damage.
Match to be a draw – Italy v Albania
Italy enter Euro 2024 as defending European champions, but Luciano Spalletti’s team aren’t fancied to keep hold of their title. The former Napoli boss has only managed a handful of matches as Azzurri manager and is still working out the shape and structure of his side. Italy are very much a work-in progress.
Albania, on the other hand, qualified emphatically for Euro 2024, finishing top of a group that included Czechia and Poland. While Sylvinho’s team aren’t known for being the most exhilarating attacking force, they only conceded four times in qualifying and are difficult to play against. They will give Italy trouble.
Both teams to score – Spain v Croatia
Spain and Croatia meet on Saturday in what will be the first heavyweight clash of Euro 2024. Spain have an exciting new generation coming through which includes the likes of Pedri and Lamine Yamal with Rodri the best number six in world football right now. Meanwhile, Croatia are experienced campaigners at tournament level.
Spain finished as one of the top scorers in Euro 2024 qualifying, netting 25 times in just eight fixtures, while Croatia have found their shooting boots of late, finding the back of the net nine times in their last three games. This match could swing either way, but there should be goals no matter the outcome.

England vs. Serbia
There’s no denying England have the talent to win Euro 2024. However, Gareth Southgate’s team enter the tournament under a cloud of negativity following the shock home defeat to Iceland. The Three Lions might not be at their free-flowing best against Serbia on Sunday. They might have to grind out a win.
Harry Kane has just finished a season which saw him score 44 goals for Bayern Munich and could be relied upon to make the difference for England against Serbia. The former Spurs striker is dependable from the spot while Serbia only scored 15 times in eight Euro 2024 qualifying matches.
