THE final day of the Qipco Guineas Festival features the 1000 Guineas in what is a wide open classic where there hasn’t been a winning favourite in the last ten renewals. The Moyglare winner Fallen Angel heads the market, with Ylang Ylang, who won the Fillies’ Mile and the Nell Gwyn second Dance Sequence the front three in the betting. The French raider Ramatuelle, who should get the trip and my selection See The Fire, who will go well returning to the Rowley Mile add to the competitive mix of this race, whilst Star Style for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon and Tamfana could easily outrun their odds.
This is a fascinating 1000 Guineas and I’m looking forward to being at Newmarket for the final day of the Qipco Guineas Festival.
Enjoy whether at Newmarket or watching #athome on ITV Racing and Racing TV.
Cheers

1.50 Newmarket – Pretty Polly Stakes Listed Race (1m 2f)
Kalpana was so impressive when winning on handicap debut here at the Craven meeting over this trip when beating Align The Stars by 10 lengths. This was a significant step up in form and whilst going up from a handicap to a Listed contest gives her a bit more to do she was visually very impressive. Kalpana is entered in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and can keep progressing with another success holding off Winter Snowfall, who looks the main danger.

3.00 Newmarket – Heritage Handicap (1m 6f)
Intinso did well to finish a close third at Kempton last time given the race was set up for those at the front (first two Cemhaan and Killybegs Warrior were 1-2 almost throughout) and had looked progressive before that. Intinso was a ready winner over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton the time before, and this step up to 1m 6f should see him to continue to go forward. There is a lot to like about his chances here.

Kihavah had his first run for seven months back in February when seventh to Citizen General at Kempton and will be much sharper for that appearance. Last season Kihavah recorded a hat-trick in May and June, including when beating Prydwen over 1m 5f, which is smart form. He was then second to Live Your Dream on the July course at Newmarket and back at flat headquarters can reward each way players.
3.40 Newmarket – Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes Group 1 (1m)
See The Fire (nap) impressed on debut on the July course last August (form working out well) and continued to improve in two subsequent starts, when second in the May Hill at Doncaster and then better again when third in the Fillies’ Mile to Ylang Ylang on the Rowley Mile. See The Fire was possibly doing a bit too much too soon that day, only weakening out of it very late in the piece. She has been in my notebook since her run in the May Hill and under a more patient ride returning to Newmarket it wouldn’t be hard to see this See The Stars filly improve again at three, much as her dam Arabian Queen did (kept improving the older she got, winning a Juddmonte at three). See The Fire will appreciate a strong pace and has all the credentials to run a big race on her return to the Rowley Mile.

Tamfana could run a big race here after winning a Group 3 at Chantilly beating Shady Lady last season, she showed improved form on seasonal debut when third to Romantic Style in the Group 3 Prix Imprudence at Deauville, with Ramatuelle ½ length in front of her. Ramatuelle is a fifth of her price in the 1000 Guineas and Tamfana could be overlooked, given that she will benefit from stepping up to a mile (has an Oaks entry) and running on better ground than the heavy on her last two starts.
