Kelso

1.42PM – Pentland Hills

He shaped very well on his return at Doncaster in December but testing ground has twice scuppered plans to get another run into him since, most recently at Kempton last week. There is rain around again but hopefully it won’t get too bad. We all know how good he was as a juvenile, when winning the Triumph and following up at Aintree, and I’d like to think he can be competitive here off a mark of 142 after that good Doncaster run.

2.17pm – Jango Baie

He carries a 5lb penalty and has to give weight away all round here but he is a Grade 1 winner, so he deserves to. He couldn’t quite follow up in the Sidney Banks last time but he was giving the promising, unbeaten, winner 5lb there and was beaten just 1 ½ lengths, so I think he is the one to beat.

2.50pm – Under Control

Obviously, her Sandown defeat of Iberico Lord last season reads very well, and it was good to see her bounce back and run so well when splitting Grade 1-winning mares at Doncaster last time, having been given a wind op after running below par on her return at Newbury. With just seven starts under her belt, I’d be hopeful she has further improvement in her, but this race does not lack for credible opposition, that’s for sure.

4.35pm – Governor Of India

He was a fair 1m2f winner on the Flat for the Gosdens last year and hopefully he can give a good account of himself here in a race that has cut up. He goes well enough at home, but this will tell us a lot more.
