Market Rasen

The Unibet sponsored jumps card at Market Rasen has plenty of depth and is certainly competitive with races like the Unibet Summer Plate packed with runners in really strong form. At the head of the market and carrying top weight is the remarkable Francky Du Berlais Unibet 4/1 looking for his third victory in this high-class Handicap Chase. I decided to make the mistake of opposing him last year and just feel that a runner like Born Famous could take the Unibet Summer Plate off bottom weight.

At Newbury in the Wetherbys Super Sprint Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon has six runners with La Guarida Unibet 14/1 looking to have the strongest claims to chase home favourite Royal Relief Unibet 5/4.

Enjoy whether at Market Rasen or Newbury and enjoy if watching #athome on ITV Racing and Racing TV.

Cheers!

2.05 Market Rasen – Unibet Horserace Betting Operator Of The Year Handicap Hurdle (2m 4½f)

Malina Ocarina was disappointing at Southwell last time, seemingly without much excuse but concentrate on her easy win there the time before, which saw her win an easy five lengths. She handles soft ground, having won on it at Huntingdon last year, and this looks like it will be run at a furious pace, which will help her hold-up style. Expect her to come into it late and give the Gary Hamner yard another winner this week.

2.40 Market Rasen – Unibet’s Zero% Mission Summer Handicap Hurdle (2m ½f)

Myristica is seeking a four timer here for the David Pipe team and she looks to have been given a generous mark of 112 on her first start in handicaps. There is more to come, and the excellent Jack Tudor will ride another well-judged race.

Manor Park beat the in-form Glorious Zoff (reopposes here) at Newton Abbot last time with still something in hand and the way he jumped right at most flights suggests this switch to a right-handed track today ought not be a problem. For all the runner-up is better off at the weights, Manor Park might be more at home if the rain does come, having finished second at Windsor on the Flat on soft ground earlier in the year. The excellent Beau Morgan keeps the ride and there’s no reason this in-form and genuine sort can’t go well again.

3.15 Market Rasen – Unibet Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Premier Chase) (2m 5½f)

Born Famous (nap) goes from strength to strength since joining Ian Jardine and her place in the lineup today looks something of a plan. She creeps in at the bottom of the weights after picking up a 5lb penalty for her win at Perth last Sunday, one that was achieved very easily but she recorded a big speed figure in the process. That’s impressive, considering she was barely out of second gear and gave the impression there was a lot more to come. It is worth looking at her penultimate start over hurdles at Aintree when she came with a surging run from off the pace three out to come through and win in fine style. If the rain comes this will feel more like a 3m contest – there’s almost a furlong to add on with rail movements anyway – and that’s going to suit. A confident pick, more so if it’s wet.

Gloire D’Athion has won five of his last six starts and this progressive type has some serious credentials for the Summer Plate. On his penultimate appearance he was somewhat fortunate in a good contest at Sandown when Harpers Brook downed tools after jumping the last in front, however this was still a worthy performance. Gloire D’Athion was next seen digging deep at Uttoxeter to beat Quid Pro Quo by one and a half lengths, with Killer Clown in third (reopposes here) in a very competitive 12 runner Clarke Chase. Gloire D’Athion has more improvement to come, jumps really well and this genuine type has proven form on good and soft going. He has a strong chance.

3.35 Newbury – Wetherbys Super Sprint Stakes (5f)

Rosario made a winning debut at Flos Las last month when he was the only runner in the race with no previous racecourse experience so that performance can be marked up. It is obvious he needs to make a big step up in a race that looks more open than the betting suggests though and this Harry Angel gelding can get in the each way mix with the favourite Relief Rally looking hard to oppose.
