DAY 1 of the Boodles July Festival features Adayar Unibet 1/2 on in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes Group 2, as well as Nostrum on his first start in 2023 in the intriguing Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes Listed Race.
The Heritage Handicap is a fascinating renewal and I’m looking forward to an afternoon of quality racing at the home of flat racing.
Enjoy whether at Newmarket on their July course or watching #athome on ITV Racing and Racing TV.
Cheers,
The Wine Tipster
1.50 Newmarket – Bahrain Trophy Group 3 (1m 5f)
Saint George is the prover stayer in the field and already looks St Leger material, so it may be Cieran Fallon decides to go to the front early, as there looks little pace on with the rest of the field. He did win a slowly run race at Southwell three starts ago so isn’t short of a bit of toe if he requires it, but he continued his progression with an excellent second to Gregory in the Queens Vase last time and was prominent throughout. This is a tough race though, with lots of depth, however Saint George keeps stepping up on every start and there is plenty to like about this genuine type.

2.25 Newmarket – Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes Group 2 (6f)
Lake Forest (nap) looked green on debut at Haydock, when slowly away and a bit clueless for the first half of the race but came through strongly to win going away at the end. Third home Vantheman won at Ayr earlier in the week to give the form a bit of a boost and with the potential to do much better again, Lake Forest gets the vote for the in-form William Haggas team.

3.00 Newmarket – Heritage Handicap (6f)
Mill Stream finished just in front of Eminency at York last time when Quinault won and Washington Heights was second, and he’s better off with both that pair today. He is fully proven over course and distance after his second to the classy Noble Style here last July. He still has room to improve, is drawn in stall 9 near the likely pace, and should go close.

Be Frank is going for a three-timer in 2023 after winning at Salisbury and then justifying favouritism at Windsor when travelling through smoothly to take the lead a furlong out. He gave every indication there is further improvement to come and this bottom weight can get right in the mix.
5.20 Newmarket
Bodorgan was very disappointing when only seventh at Sandown last time, when this favourite never looking happy and failed to get in a rhythm, but any horse should be forgiven one poor run. Bodorgan still looks interesting on his previous fifth to Covey at Haydock in May, which looked a good race. Ryan Moore, on board for his win last year on the Rowley Mile, is back on in the plate, and Bodorgan shouldn’t be ignored here.
