2.50 Cheltenham – The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Race (3m)
Embassy Gardens looked disappointing on his first two starts of this year but in retrospect, the trip was too short on both occasions, and the step up to three miles at Thurles last time proved a smart move, as the horse looked a revelation, galloping on strongly for a 35l win. Can progress again and the ground won’t be any issue.

Chianti Classico is a massive price and is going for a four-timer here for the Kim Bailey team. He keeps progressing, has won in the soft and a mark of 133 looks favourable in a race which has seen some big priced winners in the last five years.

3.30 Cheltenham – The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup (3m 2½f)
Ahoy Senor (nap) came right back to form when winning the Cotswold Chase on Festival Trials Day on soft ground when beating Sounds Russian (reopposes here) and Grand National winner Noble Yeats, who lines up here too. This wasn’t a one off run for Ahoy Senor at Cheltenham, as he chased home L’Homme Presse in the 2022 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase and then won the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree. Ahoy Senor might be unfashionable, as he has his own way of doing things, yet this eight-year-old is right at his peak, with the Lucinda Russell yard in sparkling form, whilst Derek Fox is riding Cheltenham as good as anyone right now as we saw in the Ultima with Corach Rambler on Tuesday.

Sounds Russian is effective on soft ground and if the ground gets heavier that will be no problem. Sounds Russian certainly has to improve again to play a part in this Gold Cup and being ridden with more restraint than in the Cotswold Chase when second to Ahoy Senor with Noble Yeats in third would be a good tactical move. He continues to impress and expect a big run.

4.10 Cheltenham – The St James’ Palace Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase (3m 2½f)
Famous Clermont looked a class above his opponents when winning the Walrus at Haydock last time out, that coming at the end of a day when rain-softened ground was the order of the day, and his previously sketchy jumping seemed to have been ironed out. Had previously beaten the useful Shantou Flyer at Wincanton and easily looks the best of the home contingent.

4.50 Cheltenham Mares’ Steeple Chase (2m ½f)
Impervious made it a three-timer when winning a Grade 3 chase in the soft at Punchestown last time out, jumping well and still having plenty left in the tank. She has previously beaten Dinoblue on her previous start, which is good form combined with her jumping, attitude and progressive profile gives Impervious a strong chance.
Unibet 2/1 win.
5.30 Cheltenham – Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (2m 4½f)
Au Fleuron is an overlooked here as the novice chase route was quickly discarded with after a poor effort over fences at Wexford in October, and the only other time we’ve seen him this season was when a staying-on fourth in a big-field handicap hurdle at Punchestown at the end of last year. He was seventh in the Martin Pipe last year and can go much closer this time around.
