Pawapuri (Nico De Boinville)

She’s the most gorgeous filly who was a winner (off 80) on the flat for William Haggas and we like her a lot. This is obviously a tough introduction to her hurdling career but it would be no point going and winning a small egg and spoon race somewhere and losing her novice status for next season, so we might as well go for a decent prize and if she wins, wonderful, if not, we have a nice horse for next year. She is lovely and her schooling has been very good but I can’t tell you she will go out and win this first time out.

Tweed Skirt (Nico De Boinville)

On ratings with her weight and sex allowance she has a pretty decent chance coming into this and it would be nice to gain some valuable Black Type with her, as we did last year with Fantastic Lady who was third. She’s a course and distance winner and will hopefully run well.

Will Carver (Daryl Jacob)

He’s had plenty of issues so has been off the track for a long time and while I can’t believe he won’t need the run, he has been working quite well so could go nicely.

Scarpia (Nico De Boinville)

He ran a good race last time and I think this will suit him well. Two miles five furlongs around here is about right and he has a solid chance. I like him.

Quick Draw (Nico De Boinville)

He’s in great form at the moment and we took him out of Newbury last week because of the ground which wasn’t a problem because I had this race as plan B and he’s already a course and distance winner so has plenty going for him. He is up to a career high mark of 127 but appears to be on the upgrade and must be a serious danger.

Iolaos Du Mou (Nico De Boinville)

He is a very, very nice horse who has a name we cannot pronounce so is known to everyone around the yard as Pablo! He won his Bumper at Newbury very easily and is a horse we think a great deal of, but it is hard to carry a penalty against some potentially smart animals. We will know a lot more about him after this.

East India Express (Sam Twiston-Davies)

He’s on a mission because he was bought at Goffs Sales and the aim is to go to Newbury for their big prize in March but I feel to go well in a race like that you need experience which is why we’re coming here. I have a few horses like him who are ready to run and they’ll all be out in the next week or two. He does go very well but this will sharpen him up nicely

Boom Boom (Paul O’Brien)

It was very frustrating because I had to take him out of Newbury again last weekend so we’re coming here instead which might not be that much of a problem because two and a half on good ground will suit him well. We’ve tinkered with his wind and hopefully he can get off the mark.

Hands Off – NON RUNNER

I do not know what happened at Doncaster last time because he came towards three out looking a serious threat but decided to take a detour into the owners and trainers bar which was completely out of character because he’s never shown anything whatsoever like that before so we’re just going to have to draw a line through it. We’ve done lots of jumping practice with him at home so I’d like to think he’ll jump better here and hopefully he can put Doncaster behind him and run a nice race.

Rathmacknee (Ben Bromley)

I’m not quite sure what happened to him at Uttoxeter last time where he was very disappointing having run well prior to that at Doncaster and then having no chance in the Lanzarote. It’s hard to be confident with a horse with two Ps next to his name but I’m rather hoping the drop back to two miles and this stiff track will suit him. The ground will also be perfect.

Unibet are paying Extra Places on this race.

Surrey Quest (Paul O’Brien)

I’m bringing him back over hurdles and putting a set of cheek pieces on because I’m not entirely sure he was enjoying fences and hopefully he’ll go out and enjoy himself. He’s in the Pertemps but I doubt he’d get in off 126 even if he does finish in the first four.

4:52

Choccabloc (Sean O’Briain)

This is actually a very competitive race and Choccabloc renews rivalry with Harry Fry’s horse (Beat The Bat) who was beaten a short head at Wincanton so is arguably a ‘winner’ without a penalty. But our horse is the most gorgeous animal who is improving all the time and has come on plenty for his first run. Nico isn’t on board here but has ridden him in a few pieces of work and likes him a lot so hopefully he can go close. He’s a big, strong horse who will be suited by the track and any cut in the ground.
