She will obviously have to be very good to be winning at this level first time up, but she gets the 7lb sex allowance, and 12lb from form horse Scriptwriter, and we know she was a very decent, and lightly-raced, middle-distance winner on the Flat with William Haggas. She has clearly pleased us at home to even be running in this grade on her hurdling debut, but this will tell us a whole lot more about her. It does look a very tough race, though.

2.25pm Kempton

Tweed Skirt

She was very good when winning her first two chase starts, including around here, and she probably wasn’t far off that level when third to Jeremy’s Flame and Zambella at Huntingdon last time, as they are two classy mares. Getting the weight, she certainly has her chance on ground she will enjoy, though Boothill is very obviously the one to beat, even with his 5lb penalty stepping up in trip.

4.10pm Kempton

Scarpia

He is in the Pertemps but, being rated 123, a good win here is probably needed to see him have a chance of getting into that race next month. He is fair horse on his day and he ran well when third to Itchy Feet over 3m1f last time at Huntingdon, and this shorter trip is fine for him, too.

4.45pm Kempton

Quick Draw

He handed his sole opponent a walkover when pulled out because of the quick ground at Newbury last weekend, having earlier won very impressively here. He went up 8lb for that success but it was clearly justified, though this looks a handicap with more depth to it. After his performance last time, we have to be hopeful.

Iolaus du Mou

He was another horse set to go to Newbury last weekend before nature intervened. We haven’t seen him since he was very impressive at that track back in November, but he is clearly a smart prospect, even though a 7lb penalty is not helpful.
