An impressive winner of his only point last December, he hasn’t run for nearly a year but we have been delighted with him since he joined us. We have won this race with some very good horses in the past and, while it is obviously early days, we think he is an exciting prospect. This could be a decent race though, so let’s see.

Balco Coastal
He bumped into a good one when second in his only point, and we hope he can develop into a decent chaser. He ran to a pretty good level over hurdles, finishing third in a strong Aintree handicap hurdle on his final start, and his schooling has gone very well. If he can transfer that ability to the track, then hopefully he can give a good account of himself off 133 here.

Russian Ruler
A winner on his debut in a Warwick bumper, he ran to a pretty decent level when fifth in the Dovecote in Grade 2 company at Kempton back in February. However, we feel he could be a fair bit better than that this season and he has had a breathing operation to help him along. There is plenty of improvement in him, we feel.

He has had a break since winning for me at Worcester in June. The handicapper didn’t go overboard in upping him 4lb for that win, so hopefully he can still be competitive here.
