DAY four of The Qatar Goodwood Festival includes the King George Qatar Stakes Group 2 over the minimum trip, which looks a very competitive renewal, as does the Golden Mile Handicap, where there are so many with chances here, however the favourite Nobel Dynasty could really show how classy he is here. Also, in this Golden Mile Handicap, it is a worth having a small each way wager on Positive Unibet 33/1 each way, who hasn’t run for nearly two years and has been given a chance by the handicapper. Positive as a two and three-year old only ran in Group races after his maiden run.

One of my favourite races is the Goodwood Handicap over the longest trip at Goodwood over two miles four and half furlongs and here the runners start in front of the stands and go the reverse way down the course initially. There are less true stayers in this renewal than usual, though there are still plenty in with chances here.

1.50 Goodwood – Goodwood Handicap (2m 4½f)

Super Superjack (nap) has been in the first three of eleven of his fourteen career turf starts and this five-year-old is more than capable of winning this Goodwood Handicap. Super Superjack has course form having won here back in April and at Ascot in May beating Make My Day (reopposes here). At York in May he came from off the pace in typical style to challenge late over two miles and half a furlong and just failed to peg back Evaluation when looking like a longer trip will suit. Next time out he was out of luck at Salisbury in June and it is best to ignore that run. The quick ground will suit, the cheekpieces will help and Super Superjack looks like he has been laid out for this contest for the Milton Harris team.

Withhold can make his class tell in a race where many will not get the trip and he will be there on the premises. Admittedly he has to reverse form with Reshoun, however this has clearly been one of his targets for the season, and he’s worked his way down nicely to a mark 2lb lower than when runner-up in this last year.

3.00 Goodwood – Golden Mile (1m)

Noble Dynasty looks an obvious choice here after making all at Newmarket at their July Festival on seasonal return on his first start after being gelded.  He is well in under a penalty here as the handicapper has upped him 9lb for that success, however he only has a 3lb penalty in this early closing handicap so is 6lb well in. This classy individual recorded a good time at Newmarket and has the ideal draw from stall 3 to go forward here making all.

Unibet 5/2 win

Eilean Dubh is a totally genuine type and whilst he is having his tenth start in 2022 (first appearance in January) he has only finished out the first three on two occasions. Last month this colt beat Blue For You (reopposes) at York in really progressive style and back in May won a 20 runner handicap at the same course so big fields are no problem. The ground conditions will suit and stall 6 looks a favourable draw too.

3.35 Goodwood – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) 5f

Mitbaahy won at Hamilton in May and delivered an eye-catching win at Sandown in a Listed race when moving smoothy through from last to first. He then looked unlucky in the Sprint Stakes at Sandown when second to Raasel (reopposes here) beaten a neck when denied a smooth challenge on two occasions.  The handicapper has put Mitbaahy up three pounds for that second, whilst Raasel has stayed on the same mark. Mitbaahy has a good draw here in stall 4 and with Raasel in stall 3, who likes to go forward, then Mitbaahy can come from off the pace with his late challenge.

4.45 Goodwood – Nursery Handicap (6f)

Felix Natalis cruised up on nursery debut at Newbury last week when making all and winning by an easy three and a half lengths, which is backed up by a good speed figure. This Harry Angel colt showed tremendous early speed there and if he hits the gates from stall 8, could tack across to the rail to make all. Felix Natalis has a strong each way chance here.
