WHAT a Saturday to look to on the final day of the Moët & Chandon July Festival with the feature the Darley July Cup Stakes Group 1 and as ever there is a super competitive Bunbury Cup. There are very good cards at York and Ascot too on a super Saturday of racing.

Enjoy whether at The July Festival or #athome watching on ITV Racing or Racing TV.

2.40 Newmarket – Mile Handicap (1m)

Laasudood looks a hot prospect for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon and Christophe Soumillon is booked to take the ride. Laasudood showed real improvement when beating Roxzoff comfortably at Doncaster last month, having shaped well at Nottingham when second to Secret State, who franked the form by winning the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot beating Deauville Legend my nap at Newmarket on Thursday. Richard Hannon has his yard in flying form and has a strong chance with Laasudood.

3.50 Newmarket – Bunbury Cup Heritage Handicap (7f)

Jumby for the inform Eve Johnson-Houghton team always run well in big handicaps and continued that excellent record when third in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot over six furlongs. He looks ready for seven furlongs again and indeed, is relatively unexposed at seven furlongs but is proven at the trip, having won twice from three attempts at the trip (and faced soft ground on the other, which he doesn’t act on) and if you rewatch his last victory over this trip on the Rowley Mile last September he could improve a little for the step back up. Christophe Soumillon is a perfect booking for him and he’s a strong fancy.

The Attorney is a specialist at this distance and this colt’s three career successes have all been over seven furlongs. Ignore his first run of the season when the ground was too soft and look at his second to The Turpinator at Goodwood when just headed near the finish. He then finished in the same position on his latest start at Newcastle behind Rhythm Master. The Attorney will have been targeted at this race and he has definite each way claims on the fast ground that suits him.

4.05 York – John Smith’s Cup Handicap (1m 2f)

Anmaat hasn’t been seen since just losing out in the Cambridgeshire to the very late challenge of Bedouin’s Story last September when just pipped on the line. Anmaat goes well fresh, winning on seasonal debut last year over a mile so has the speed required for this race and then followed up with two wins over this trip of one mile two furlongs at Bath and Doncaster respectively. The quick conditions will suit, Anmaat is progressive and has the speed required at York over this trip.

Chichester didn’t stay the trip over one mile four furlongs at Royal Ascot and was out of his depth at Newmarket in a Group 3 in April, however his close third to Living Legend (second to Yibir on Thursday) in the Unibet Magnolia Stakes at Kempton on his seasonal reappearance shows he clearly has ability, It is worth remembering too he was joint favourite for the 2021 Cambridgeshire, having cruised up at Ayr over this trip on his previous start. He is not the most consistent, yet he could get in the mix on ground he likes with the right trip here. Chichester is worth an each way wager at a big price.

4.25 Newmarket – Darley July Cup Stakes Group 1 (6f)

Naval Crown (nap), who was fourth in the 2,000 Guineas in 2021 and has been primarily campaigned at seven furlongs and a mile has now really shown us he’s a sprinter. He came good when winning the Platinum Jubilee Group 1 at Royal Ascot, making most and using that extra stamina he has to good effect at the finish on good to firm. The July course promises to suit this genuine type even better and he has found his niche, which means there is no reason why he can’t on to further Group 1 sprinting success this season.

Unibet 6/1 win

Cadamosto ran a blinder to finish fourth to Perfect Power at Royal Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup with a much improved performance. This three-year-old is worth an each way wager.
