The feature of day two of the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival is the Darley Yorkshire Oaks Group 1, featuring short priced favourite Snowfall Unibet 2/5 on, who has a 100% record in 2021 with the Musidora Stakes at York, the Oaks at Epsom and Irish Oaks at the Curragh. This three-year-old filly won the Epsom Oaks by 16 lengths and the Irish Oaks by 8½ lengths, so it is easy to see why she is such a warm favourite. Snowfall’s main rival is the four-year-old Wonderful Tonight Unibet 9/2, who has won twice this season with her beloved soft conditions at Royal Ascot and the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Wonderful Tonight has looked really impressive in 2021 and is a single figure price for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in October, where they are likely to have the ground conditions that favour her. Currently at York it is good and with the dry forecast it is hard to oppose the favourite Snowfall.

I’m really looking forward to the Yorkshire Oaks and the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, as well as the third race, the very tricky handicap!

Enjoy whether at York or watching at home.

Cheers

1.50 York – Lowther Stakes Group 2 (6f)

Illustrating won in good style at Goodwood last time out when always travelling smoothly and showing plenty of speed. She finished seventh at Royal Ascot in the Queen Mary when losing a shoe and had won on debut at Catterick. Illustrating is a very professional filly, and her speed can put her right in the mix here.

2.25 YorkGoffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes (6f)

System can take this competitive contest for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon, whose yard have won this four times out of the last five years. They could have gone down the Listed or Group race route with System this week, but they have saved her for this. Last time out System was fifth to Zain Claudette (run Group 2 Lowther at 1.50) and second Desert Dreamer (runs Lowther) on King George day at Ascot. On her previous start at Newmarket in a Listed contest System had beaten Desert Dreamer a shade cosily.  Well weighted, nicely drawn in stall 8 and conditions ideal.

3.00 York – Heritage Handicap (1m)

Astro King was tipped up in my Unibet blog when second to Real World (won next time out) in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot and can go one better today from stall 17 (stalls 14 and 15 have been winning stalls in the last five years).

Astro King won his first start of the season at Nottingham, then was given too much to do at Thirsk when third ahead of his Royal Ascot appearance. Ignore his last run here at York when he was found to be lame, as Astro King had never been out of the first three on his previous career appearances. This four-year-colt by Kingman is very genuine and has a strong chance here.

Baashir won really well at Doncaster on his last appearance over seven furlongs showing plenty of speed to produce a career best performance. He was victorious here at York over the same trip back in June and an extra furlong this time is no problem, as he was second over a mile and half furlong earlier this season to Cruyff Turn (reopposes today) when staying on. Baashir has strong each-way claims and his draw in stall 1 is favourable, with low numbers providing three of the last five winners.

4.45 York – Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes Listed Race (1m 4f)

Pennymoor (nap) looked very eye-catching when stepped up to today’s trip of one mile four furlongs last time out on her third career start at Kempton, coming right away to win as she liked. This daughter of Frankel has potentially been given a good opening mark of 92, yet interestingly connections John and Thady Gosden are taking the Listed route and clearly looking for black type. On the ratings she has it to find, yet she can take this Listed prize and head to Group company.

5.20 York – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap (7f)

Spirit of Bermuda can score a three timer for the inform William Haggas team. She won at the July Festival at Newmarket last time out beating Rising Star, who reopposes today, by three quarters of a length. Spirit Of Bermuda was always prominent on that occasion and won with something in hand following up on a comfortable Leicester success. There is plenty to like about this filly, who looks to have been found a good opportunity here.
