THE Qatar Goodwood Festival 2021 is a very busy five days for Unibet Racing as the Official Betting Partner and sponsor of 12 races at the Qatar Goodwood Festival 2021, culminating in Saturday’s always competitive Unibet Stewards’ Cup.

I’m certainly looking forward to being at this beautiful racecourse over the five days for the first time since 2019 and it will be great to have crowds back at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Tuesday has two Group 2 races with the Unibet Vintage Stakes and the Unibet Lennox Stakes both over seven furlongs. In the Group 1 Goodwood Cup Stradivarius is looking to win this race for the fifth successive year, which would be an incredible achievement. Stradivarius just wasn’t at the races in the Ascot Gold Cup and didn’t get the break either when looking for a clear run. He is certainly ground versatile and with over 30mm of rain at Goodwood over the weekend this has changed the completion of the race in terms of the challengers. Trueshan, we know will like the soft ground, whereas I would have been really keen on Sir Ron Priestley’s chances if the going had remained quick. Spanish Mission, third in the Ascot Gold Cup, looks the biggest threat to Stradivarius and I just hope we don’t get another downpour ahead of a fascinating renewal, which is more open than the betting suggests.

Enjoy whether #athome or at Goodwood.

Cheers

1.50 Goodwood – Unibet “You’re On” Chesterfield Cup Handicap (1m2f)

Majestic Dawn won the Cambridgeshire last year by almost five lengths on his second start of 2020. He was then off the track until last month when a good third to Vintager at Windsor on his seasonal debut. Majestic Dawn is bound to come on plenty for that run and has won in these conditions too. This five-year-old has an excellent chance.

It’s Good To Laugh will certainly relish the conditions and showed on his first start for inform Jennie Cavendish last time out that he has plenty of ability when second at 50/1 at Chester. He has Goodwood experience too, having been second over this trip on good to soft to Native Tribe last August.

2.25 Goodwood – Unibet Vintage Stakes Group 2 (7f)

Lusail can strike here for Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon and follow up on his Group 2 success at the July Festival. Lusail beat the very smart Asymmetric that day over six furlongs on quick going, with Eldrickjones who reopposes back in fifth. The ground will be fine as Lusail won over seven furlongs at Newmarket on good to soft on his previous start beating Find in eye catching style.

Unibet 2/1 win

3.00 Goodwood – Unibet Lennox Stakes Group 2 (7f)

Toro Strike from three starts at Goodwood has form figures of 312 and is overlooked in a race which surely has been his target all year. This four-year-old colt was co-favourite last time out for the John Of Gaunt Group 3 at Haydock and was never going well enough to mount a challenge. He is better than that as he showed at Thirsk on his penultimate start when beating the Bunbury Cup winner Motakhayyel on his seasonal debut.

3.35 Goodwood – Goodwood Cup Stakes Group 1 (2m)

Spanish Mission (nap) who was third in the Ascot Gold Cup, with Stradivarius in fourth, can take the Goodwood Cup. This five-year-old like Stradivarius had to wait to make a challenge at Ascot and whilst he would not have caught the winner Subjectivist, he nearly caught the second Princess Zoe. He has really stepped up this season and won the Yorkshire Cup beating Santiago and Sir Ron Priestley, who both reoppose today, over one mile six furlongs back in May. Spanish Mission has won on good to soft and he will be ridden handy enough to make a sustained challenge.

Unibet 5/1 win

4.10 Goodwood – Back To Goodwood Handicap (5f)

Only Spoofing can follow up his victory from last year and is well drawn in stall 4 to take advantage if the likely strong pace collapses. Admittedly he run below par at Ascot last time out, however I am going to forgive him that run as he has shown plenty of good form this season notably at Epsom when second in the Derby Dash. This followed a win at Navan in May and Only Spoofing looks sure to be right in the mix in a typically open renewal.
